Dateline NBC is the television newsmagazine’s audio edition: a true-crime narrative reported by the network’s correspondents, often with Keith Morrison or another familiar voice.
The episodes follow a case the way the Friday-night program does, with interviews, timelines, and a slow walk toward what the jury heard. It is produced journalism from a TV shop, not a recap channel.
Listeners who know the broadcast will recognize the pacing. Listeners who do not still get a complete story, because the show is built to be followed by someone who missed the original airing.
The update, if there is one, is usually labeled, and it is worth hearing after the original rather than instead of it.
