Short Cuts, from BBC Radio 4 and hosted by Josie Long, is a packet of brief documentaries: a few producers, a few ideas, one sitting.
The pieces are made by a rotating cast of audio makers. Long introduces them with the enthusiasm of someone who has already laughed at the cut in the edit suite.
The strand is where a lot of British narrative radio stays short on purpose. A five-minute documentary can hold a whole character if the producer trusts the tape.
You can treat an episode as a magazine. If one piece misses, the next one starts clean.
