The Archers

The Archers is BBC Radio 4’s long-running drama of rural life in the fictional village of Ambridge, on the air since 1951.

It began as a way to smuggle agricultural advice into a story and became a daily soap about families, farms, pubs, and the slow change of a place. The plots move at the speed of a real week.

For a narrative catalog it is the opposite of a limited series. A listener who stays learns the hedges and the grudges the way a neighbor would.

Newcomers should start at a current week and accept that they will be confused. Looking up a character guide is allowed and, for the first month, wise.
