The Trojan Horse Affair follows a mysterious letter that accused Birmingham schools of an Islamist plot, and the political storm that treated the letter as fact.
Brian Reed and Hamza Syed report it as a serial, with Syed’s stake in the city left in the narration. They chase who wrote the letter and what officials did once the story was too useful to check.
The series is uncomfortable on purpose. A host is implicated in the telling, and the show does not tidy that into a brand of neutrality. The plot is a document and the uses people found for it.
It is long and argumentative. The letter itself is simple. The institutions around it are not.
