The Habitat
The Habitat, reported by Lynn Levy for Gimlet, follows six people sealed in a fake Mars on a Hawaiian volcano.
They are not astronauts on a real mission. They are a rehearsal, which turns out to be dramatically richer: chores, alliances, a window, a year of other people’s habits.
The series is a classic of small-scale documentary. The science-fiction premise falls away and you are left with a household that cannot open the door.
It is one season, complete. The interpersonal weather is the plot, and it changes slowly enough that skipping an episode drops a grudge.
